ANTI-GRAVITY TREADMILL - Motus Physical Therapy

ANTI-GRAVITY TREADMILL

What is an Anti-Gravity Treadmill?

Anti-gravity treadmill is designed to give you the same exercise tools as a regular treadmill, while using advanced technology to decrease your body weight. This effect is done by using air pressure technology. The technology was initially developed by NASA for a treadmill that was designed to allow astronauts to exercise in space. This piece of equipment used air pressure technology to simulate weight in low gravity situations.

The Boost Anti-Gravity Treadmill offered at MOTUS Specialists Physical Therapy takes the same science and tweaks it in order to do the opposite. Instead of increasing weight, it makes the user feel less weight.

The Boost Anti-Gravity Treadmill has an anti-gravity chamber that is attached to a normal treadmill belt. The chamber encases the user at the waist and uses differential air pressure to create a sense of weightlessness from the waist down. With up to 80% less body weight the treadmill operates as usual with easier movements and less stress on joints making this technology a component of leading-edge rehab.

How does it work?

The Boost Treadmill utilizes air pressure to unload a patient’s body weight to an appropriate level for a given task. Shorts are usually worn over short or tight leggings. The patient walks into the machine chamber and is zipped into what looks like a big bubble. This enables the lower body to be enclosed in air pressure and support them. Once a device is calibrated for a specific user, the support percentage of the body is adjusted by your physical therapist. Using this, the treadmill runs as usual, with adjustable speeds for walking or running even incline training.

Benefits of Anti-Gravity Treadmill

This special equipment allows people to walk or run less than half the total body weight. It’s helpful in a clinical context because a patient can perform rehab with less pain while allowing the physical therapists to assess and observe mobility and mechanics.

The Anti-Gravity Treadmill is used by patients whose aim in achieving a healthy body and a strong body is to increase mobility. BOOST is used for many rehabilitation and training purposes as it aims at restoring normal walking mechanics and promoting healthy muscle tissues.

Using BOOST in conjunction with your physical therapy at MOTUS will optimize rehab. It has been used widely as a workout tool amongst professional sports teams as a way of minimizing the risk that an impact injury during sustained exercises.

Who Benefits from Using an Anti-Gravity Treadmill?

Anti-gravity treadmill is a highly effective piece of equipment for long-distance runners as it takes the impact out of the run. This can help to prevent injuries that are often associated with long distance running such as shin splints, stress fractures and joint pain. The anti-gravity effect also allows runners to increase their speed without putting extra strain on their body.

The anti-gravity treadmill can also be used by athletes who are looking to improve their performance. The adjustable air pressure allows athletes to customize their workout to match the level of intensity that they are looking for.

This means that athletes can use the anti-gravity treadmill to improve their speed, endurance, and strength. This tool can be helpful when training in season to modulate training volume while allowing the athlete to maintain conditioning with less impact.

The Anti-Gravity Treadmill provides assistance to a broad audience including athletes, neurological conditions, and post-surgical patients in the physical therapy setting. Your physical therapist will help ensure a fall safe environment talking you through and helping you into the large bubble and getting you zipped inside before adjusting the air pressure and speed adjustments.

Anti-Gravity Treadmill within Physical Therapy

When used in a clinical setting with physical therapy, the anti-gravity treadmill can help to improve your posture, balance, and walking mechanics. The Anti-Gravity treadmill is perfect for people of all ages and abilities who are looking to improve their health and well-being while recovering from an injury.

Minimizing stress on the body allows people to exercise without putting too much strain on their injured joints and muscles. This can help improve recovery times, safely promote tissue healing, and optimize patient outcomes.

Therapeutically anti-gravity treadmills may be used early after surgery to restore proper gait mechanics with less pain. Overall, the use of these devices is expected to facilitate the rehabilitation process, reduce recovery times and optimize recovery. Injured athletes rehabilitating from lower extremity injuries (eg. hip surgery, knee pain, Achilles injury, etc.) can use the anti-gravity treadmill to help them return to their previous level of performance whether it is an early goal to restore normal walking or later in the process of restoring proper running mechanics.

This device helps prevent stress fractures and other injuries that can occur from overtraining. Additionally, it is a valuable tool for those recovering from stress fractures to gradually load the lower body safely with less risk of re-injury.

Benefits of Weightless Running.

Patients report feeling lighter and more comfortable during their treadmill workouts. This is due to the reduction of gravitational forces which can cause pain, discomfort, and muscle fatigue. Athletes can focus on various types of fitness goals once cleared by their physical therapist to perform greater volume or intensity of training.

The ability to change the air pressure within the chamber allows people to customize their workout to match their fitness level and goals. The anti-gravity treadmill is a great tool for athletes of all levels who are looking to improve their performance. Physical therapists can use the anti-gravity treadmill to help patients restore proper walking and running mechanics, which can help reduce recovery time and optimize patient outcomes.

If you have any questions about how the anti-gravity treadmill can help you achieve your rehab and fitness goals, please speak with your MOTUS physical therapist. They will be able to recommend the best course of treatment for you and help ensure that you have a safe and successful rehabilitation.

I had been diagnosed with degenerative lower back issues. The doctors solutions were no more running and pain medications as needed. I really wasn’t comfortable with either suggestion and felt there just had to be other options. Not only is my back stronger but I have been given the tools not only to decrease my pain but also allow me to continue running. I cannot stress enough what a difference this has made not only in my back but my overall health and mental well-being. I have surpassed some of my personal goals of 20 miles in a week, no pain medications and weight loss with ZERO PAIN!!!! I cannot thank the MOTUS Team enough. I’m not a professional athlete or really even a fitness fanatic. I’m a 56 year old wife, mother and grandmother who can say I’m in the best shape of my life. I encourage you to check them out whether you are an athlete on the mend, dealing with an injury or diagnosis that you are being told will alter your life or just a mom/grandma looking to improve your way of life. I cannot recommend MOTUS enough!!!
